When talking about the most precise drummers out there, lots of names come up, such as Neil Pert, Mike Portnoy, Stewart Copeland. Another name that must be thrown into the conversation is Queensryche’s Scott Rockenfield.

As the man behind the kit for Queensrÿche, Scott Rockenfield has defined himself as a drummer par excellence, providing both rhythmic support and percussive propulsion with his signature style. A man who can make his hi-hat work as compelling as his tom fills, Rockenfield further expanded the art of metal drumming with inventive playing and showing that subtlety was just as important as aggression. Listen to the seminal rock opera Operation: Mindcrime for proof positive…

In 1981 at the age of 17 he founded the now Multi-Platinum rock band Queensryche. And now after almost 30 years together they have toured around the world dozens of times in over 45 countries and have released over 14 records and with sales over 30 million copies worldwide.

Scott Rockenfield of Queensryche Interview
by Gus Griesinger

When talking about the most precise drummers out there, lots of names come up, such as Neil Pert, Mike Portnoy, Stewart Copeland.  Another name that must be thrown into the conversation is Queensryche’s Scott Rockenfield.  Scott is a true musician and all around nice guy. He was willing to step in for band mate Geoff Tate, at the last minute, after Geoff was delayed in getting back to the venue for our scheduled interview. Scott talked about how ‘American Soldier’ came to light. We also touched upon his long relationship with his band mates in Queensryche. In addition, we chatted about what fans can expect from the band going into 2010. Lets get rocking to it…

For those who serve and for those who rock… Hair Nation’s got your back!  Every good soldier deserves a rockin’ soundtrack and during Hair Nation’s American Soldier weekend we’re handing over our programming to the soldiers, their families and their friends.  So if you know a soldier and want to play their favorite 80’s-90’s hard rock song, email us now (hyperlink to hairnation@siriusxm.com), and every request that makes it on air will be emailed to you (mp3), just in case you want to send it to the dedicated soldier.

In addition, every hour Hair Nation will have Geoff Tate and Scott Rockenfield from Queensryche, introduce and play songs off their new release American Soldier (out in stores March 31st and the inspiration behind this specialty weekend), plus songs from the awesome Queensryche catalog.  Sirius XM gives our soldiers the music they need to protect the country they love, and for that we salute you!

Episode 0009 – “Our Main Focus While We’re in Rehearsals…” – Scott Rockenfield explains the band’s unorthodox method of rehearsing for a tour….

“Ya know, rehearsals for us have always been an interesting place where we have to start each time we go out on the road.  We had been recently doing that, in the last couple of years, over at Eddie’s house, in his garage…”
