The concept for Queensryche’s upcoming album American Soldier (out March 31) may have begun with conversations between vocalist Geoff Tate and numerous past and present members of the U.S military (including his dad), but once the ideas were in place for the lyrics the band members had to mold them into songs that complimented the messages within. In today’s interview segment with Tate, the singer describes how the band wrote the music for American Soldier.

Video Interview: Queensryche Singer Geoff Tate on Experiences of Military Men who Inspired ‘American Soldier’

Yesterday, we brought you part one of our video interview with Queensryche vocalist Geoff Tate.

Today, we offer up four more clips for part two. Stay tuned for the remaining two segments tomorrow and Friday. Queensryche’s new album, American Soldier, comes out March 31 and documents the experiences of men and women in the U.S. military between World War II and the current War in Iraq. On March 31, Queensryche will release their new powerful and ambitious concept album American Soldier. It’s certainly not the first time the Seattle band has told a story over the course of a record. In 1988, the group’s epic Operation: Mindcrime set the standard for futuristic metal concept records, and in 2006 the band issued the highly anticipated sequel Operation: Mindcrime II. But while both Mindcrime albums were political American Soldier is the band’s most topical offering to date.

The disc is a non-judgmental chronicle of war stories from U.S. soldiers who were in combat between World War II and the current War in Iraq. The idea for the album concept began with a candid conversation between vocalist Geoff Tate and his dad, a war veteran. The singer was so inspired by his father’s stories that he decided to interview other members of the military to document their experiences in song. We recently interviewed Tate about American Soldier and over the next four days we’ll present insightful and informative clips from the conversations. click “more” watch the first batch.
