TAKE COVER SEMI-FINALISTS

QUEENSRYCHE "TAKE COVER" SEMI-FINALISTS  TO COMPETE THIS SATURDAY, MARCH 1ST, AT SEATTLE'S PARAMOUNT THEATRE

SELECTED GRAND PRIZE WINNER TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE ON THE BAND'S FORTHCOMING CD

In a vocal competition that united the QUEENSRYCHE faithful and fanatical throughout the United States, the band's month-plus Take Cover promotion scoured the musical landscape for three semi-finalists who could best perform one of three songs from QUEENSRYCHE'S latest release, Take Cover, on Rhino Records - Black Sabbath's "Neon Knights," Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine" or "Synchronicity" by the Police.

Since the contest began in mid-January when the current leg of the tour first started, literally dozens of hopeful contestants stepped up to the microphone and let it wail at their local venues with winners being selected in each participating city.

"It was surprising to see just how many really great singers came out for this contest," states Queensryche front man Geoff Tate. "We felt this was a fantastic opportunity to witness a vast amount of musical talent from across the country."

The Take Cover contest -- which took place in several major cities along the tour -- had eager contestants call into their sponsoring radio station to audition.

The tour encompassed more than two dozen dates in all and the Take Cover contest was split into three segments along the tour with one semi-finalist being selected from each of those segments.

Hundreds called in...

Dozens hit the stage...

And then there were three...

This Saturday night in front of Queensryche's hometown crowd at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, Tony Devita (House of Blues/Anaheim, California), Rick Forsgren (Myth/St. Paul, Minnesota) and Vincent Solano (Tampa Theatre/Tampa, Florida) will again be performing their favorite "Take Cover" song in hopes of winning the ultimate rock and roll contest.

Besides being devout followers of the Ryche, Tony, Rick and Vincent all have one thing in common... their riveting rendition of the Sabbath rock anthem, "Neon Knights," led them to the finals.

The grand prize winner will be determined by a decibel reader...

Whoever gets the loudest audience response wins!

Is there really any other way when it comes to rock and roll?

The lucky and talented winner will get back up on stage to perform with QUEENSRYCHE that evening!

The experience won't end there as the winner will perform on the band's forthcoming CD to be recorded in the near future.

Truly a rock and roll dream!

What else is in store for QUEENSRYCHE?

The band -- comprised of Geoff Tate, Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson and Mike Stone -- will be embarking on a tour of Brazil beginning the second week of May with a European tour to follow on June 1st.

Road warriors, indeed.

Details to follow.

Screaming In Digital: XO Laptop Meets Heavy Metal
Posted on February 09, 2008

Wayan thought I should field test the XO laptop I won on OLPC News in the pit of the upcoming Don Dokken/Queensryche concert.

After all, fellow Queensryche fans were the reason I had his XO - they stuffed the contest ballot that won the XO (In interests of disclosure, I did tell him about my rocking of the vote before he awarded me the xo). I told him I'd try to get pictures of the band and the XO on the internets...
