Queensryche will be playing a special show at 4th And B in San Diego, and the band hopes some of the crew of the USS Nimitz comes ashore and gets a chance to see them tonight (April 29) in San Diego. The band will stop by the nuclear powered aircraft carrier during the day for a meet-and-greet with the crew. The band is in town as part of their tour in support of their new live DVD, The Art Of Live. A majority of the band has military ties. The father of vocalist Geoff Tate had a twenty year career in the Navy and worked at Bremerton Naval Base, just outside of Seattle. Guitarist Michael Wilton has several family members in the military. Bassist Eddie Jackson’s father also served in the armed forces. Queensryche always has supported the military, and songwriter Tate notes that war is just a differing of opinions. He noted that due to the human condition facts get blurred, and he quite enjoys the different perspectives people in the world have. And so much of what we perceive is opinion and we call it fact, we call it truth – but really it’s opinion. We base monumental decisions on opinion.” Nimitz recently returned from an eight-month combat deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During deployment and work-ups Nimitz's crew made 42,334 flight deck aircraft moves and 4,571 hangar bay aircraft moves. There are 3,500 deployed on the aircraft carrier. Queensryche’s string of dates ends this Saturday (May 1) at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas.
