Tomorrow Military.com will premiere the new Queensryche video for Home Again.
During the recording of American Soldier, Geoff Tate spoke about the making of the song… “So the song Home Again is about those feelings of separation that people feel when they’re away from their families; and they’re in a situation that’s dangerous, with that question, “will I make it back home again.” I can kinda relate a lot to this being on the road, being away from my family….”

Having grown up listening to the music of Queensrÿche throughout the early 80′s all the way through to the 90′s – they always ranked as one of my fave bands. Easily. With classic albums such as ‘The Warning’, ‘Rage For Order’, ‘Operation Mindcrime’ and ‘Empire’ – they were second to none.
To be perfectly honest, I haven’t really kept up with the band of late – it just has not been the same since Chris Degarmo left the band – and I was even considering not shooting tonight’s gig as simply put, I had lost interest in them.
But throughout the past week whilst I was debating on whether to shoot them or not – I went back through the band’s discography (see above) and was reminded, once again, just why I loved this band…..

“American Soldier” is by far Queensryche’s most ambitious album as it features real life accounts and stories from soldiers of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. These real life experiences are documented in “American Soldier’s” overall theme, and makes for an adventurous listen, kind of like being on a military mission… Moreover, musically, this is definitely one of Queensryche’s heavier releases as this energy stems from the record’s serious subject matter at hand.
I was lucky enough to have a chat with frontman Geoff Tate and here is what he told me about the making of “American Soldier” and his role as the interviewer this time around.

Damn Fine Day is your source of outstanding, overlooked songs that deserve their place among the greatest hits of all time. Each day they’ll introduce you to a gem from the past that they feel belongs in your collection.
Today’s song is recommended by Queensryche’s Geoff Tate, whose aggressive hard rock/heavy metal seems like a world away from Sade’s detached, jazzy R&B-pop. “Like A Tattoo” comes from Sade’s highly successful 1992 album, Love Deluxe, which spawned the hits “No Ordinary Love” and “Kiss Of Life.” The chilled-out vibe of the song is in contrast to the story the lyrics tell. Sade talks of a lover whose past is burdening and shaming him, and of the conflict and potential violence that haunt him. Geoff’s roles as lead singer and lyricist in Queensryche allow him to weave stories, like Sade does, within his songs. His progressive approach to metal sets the band apart from their contemporaries not only by the topics they tackle but by the ambitious concept albums they’ve produced.

Scott Rockenfield of Queensryche Interview
by Gus Griesinger
When talking about the most precise drummers out there, lots of names come up, such as Neil Pert, Mike Portnoy, Stewart Copeland. Another name that must be thrown into the conversation is Queensryche’s Scott Rockenfield. Scott is a true musician and all around nice guy. He was willing to step in for band mate Geoff Tate, at the last minute, after Geoff was delayed in getting back to the venue for our scheduled interview. Scott talked about how ‘American Soldier’ came to light. We also touched upon his long relationship with his band mates in Queensryche. In addition, we chatted about what fans can expect from the band going into 2010. Lets get rocking to it…

Scott Rockenfield: The Rock of the Rÿche
by bryanreesman
As the man behind the kit for Queensrÿche, Scott Rockenfield has defined himself as a drummer par excellence, providing both rhythmic support and percussive propulsion with his signature style. A man who can make his hi-hat work as compelling as his tom fills, Rockenfield further expanded the art of metal drumming with inventive playing and showing that subtlety was just as important as aggression. Listen to the seminal rock opera Operation: Mindcrime for proof positive…

About “Home Again”
Like all the songs on American Soldier, ”Home Again” is based on a real soldier’s story as told to singer Geoff Tate. The song features a rare duet between Geoff and his 11-year-old daughter Emily and examines the emotional toll of war from two perspectives – Geoff singing from the soldier’s point of view and his daughter singing from that of the child left behind.
“This song is inspired by a series of letters between a soldier and his young daughter back at home. He was laughing about how he thought it was really cute to him that in the letters, they were both saying the same things and even using the same terminology,” says Tate. “There is a lot of emotion attached to this song. The whole idea of separation between loved ones is one of my favorite topics, perhaps because I live and breathe it being away from my kids and my wife while touring. You miss them so much, and it’s like you live two separate lives. When you’re a soldier and you’re away, it’s very difficult to bridge those two worlds.”
